Mountain Makins is a weekend folk life festival celebrating the traditions of Appalachia through music, dance, fine art, juried crafts, storytelling, demonstrations, regional authors, childrens activities, food and more. The event draws
approximately 7,000 visitors and is one of Hamblen Countys largest events. The festival is housed in and around Rose Center, an 1892 school building, which now serves Morristown, Tennessee as a cultural arts center and historical museum. The festival was named by the Southeast Tourism Society as a Top Twenty Event in the Southeast for October 2008 & 2011, and was voted Best Festival in East Tennessee by readers of Tennessee Magazine. All proceeds support Rose Center and its many arts, historic and educational programs.
