Rose Center, Morristowns cultural arts center, is kicking off its forty-first year with the 41st annual Mountain Makins Festival. The award-winning festival, started in 1976 as a way to raise funds to save historic Rose School, celebrates the very best of Appalachian culture, from crafts to music. The festival is a delightful combination of crafts, food, music, dancing and fun.
The prize-winning festival begins with a Preview Party on Friday from 6:30 9pm. Advance-only tickets for this special FUNdraiser are $40. Guests will be treated to a gourmet buffet, get first chance to purchase crafts, and will be admitted free Saturday and Sunday.
All weekend, artisans will exhibit throughout the historic building and the surrounding grounds. Visitors to the family-friendly event can also watch live demonstrations of traditional folk life skills, listen to live bluegrass and old time music, set a spell in the storytelling tent, see more than a dozen dance groups, talk with local authors, and let their children paint a pumpkin, ride a pony, and more.
