Alexandria is home to the DeKalb County Fair, known affectionately to locals as "The Grandpa Fair of the South". One of the oldest running fairs in the United States, the fair has been offering old-fashioned fun and good-natured competition since 1856.

Although the fair has progressed with the technology age promoting online registration and news links...at the end of the day, there's always a blue ribbon waiting for the best tomatoes, finest cow, and the prettiest beauty queen.

"Going to the local fair has been a favorite 'must do' for the young and young at heart for a very long time. It's good, clean, family-fun at its finest. Bringing your children to experience all of the fun things the fair brings to town, gives them the same feeling that you had as a kid," said Angie Meadows, Lions Pavilion coordinator. "It's a special, highly anticipated week of summer where friends and neighbors come to have a great time.
